White House | Black Market creates a welcoming ambience at its store in Yorkdale Centre, Toronto, the company’s first location outside the United States. The 3,063-sq.-ft. space has the look and feel of an intimate boutique.
The store design combines the brand’s signature mix of finishes and features with overscaled flourishes, including an oversized cut-crystal chandelier. The overarching black-and-white palette is enhanced with mirrored accents, striped satin draperies, velvet upholstery, and silver-leaf wallcovering. The revamped fitting room area offers opportunities for product displays and wardrobing.
To date, White House/Black Market, a division of Chico’s FAS, has opened three locations in the Toronto area.

SPECS Preview: Technology Maintains Your Retail Operations
In recent years, the retail industry’s view of technology has expanded from something only the IT department needs to be concerned about to something that other departments, such as marketing and finance, also share an active interest in. iInside and Fujitsu will offer demonstrations of very different solutions that both make it easier for store planning executives to decide how to best lay out a store and determine product placement and traffic flow. iInside will demonstrate location analytics technology that gives deep insight into how the consumer experience is greatly affected by the appearance of the store, merchandise display, store atmosphere, in-store service and accessibility. Fujitsu will demonstrate tablet-based POS software that can radically open up possibilities of where and how customer checkout is located and performed in the store.

Without knowing exactly who represents the local customer base, retailers have to take a crapshoot when deciding where to put new stores, and what specific design features to use. Crunch Fitness: Eight-plus locations for Dallas
Dallas — Crunch Fitness is coming to Texas. Dallas entrepreneur, author and founder of Planet Tan, Tony Hartl plans to roll out eight to 10 Crunch Fitness locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area by 2016.
As a multi-unit developer for the Crunch Franchise in DFW, Hartl brings a proven history of business success. He founded Planet Tan in Dallas in 1995 and managed its growth to 17 locations before selling the chain in 2008. At the time of the sale, Planet Tan boasted the highest sales per unit in the industry. Today, as CEO of PAH Capital, Hartl plans to invest in the first Crunch locations in DFW.
Dallas-based United Commercial Realty www.ucr.com, a ChainLinks Retail Advisors partner, will help Hartl to identify locations and represent him in lease negotiations.
