eBay throws shade at Prime Day with new summer promotion

7/8/2019
eBay’s new seasonal discount site will run all summer long, but also includes some special deals aimed at stealing some daylight from Prime Day.

eBay is introducing its “Summer Brand Outlet,” a new online outlet shopping destination that offers daily discounts of up to 70% off summer-themed products from brands including Bose, Samsung, Adidas, Rolex, Tiffany & Co., and DeWalt. All purchases from the outlet site feature fast and free shipping.

In timing that does not seem coincidental, eBay says it is celebrating the launch of the Summer Brand Outlet with “Hot Deals for Hot Days,” a promotion featuring deals on thousands of items across categories from July 8-22. Discount highlights for the Hot Deals for Hot Deals campaign include up to 50% off Samsung and smart home devices, as well as 73% off half-carat round diamond earrings. Summer Brand Outlet discounts include up to 40% off Bose and up to 60% off Ray-Ban.

“Our new outlet gives eBay customers amazing discounts on quality products from trusted brands they know and love,” said Jay Hanson, VP and COO, Americas, eBay. “The new destination offers shoppers who love the thrill of the hunt for discounts, big savings during the prime summer shopping season across dozens of categories from electronics, apparel, shoes, accessories, health, toys, home to appliances.”

eBay previously announced it is launching a “crash sale” on July 15 (the Amazon event runs July 15 and July 16). The eBay event, which requires no membership unlike Prime Day, will actually run over a three-week period that started on July 1. On July 15, the official “Crash Day,” eBay said it will feature promotions on consumer electronics brands such as Apple, Samsung, and KitchenAid. It also has additional deals planned “if Amazon crashes that day.”
