Marshalls gives customers surprising reason to visit stores on Aug. 16

An off-price retailer will hold a one-day promotion to boost store traffic.

Marshalls, a division of TJX Cos., is placing a “Surprise Box” in all stores across the country on Friday, Aug.16. Each box will contain a curated assortment of items across fashion, accessories, home décor, tech, beauty and more. No two boxes will be the same, and the first customer to find the box in each store will be able to keep it.

The retailer held a trial of the program on Aug. 13 with an appearance by actress Kaley Cuoco at its Tribeca store in New York City. Cuoco unveiled the promotion and distributed the first surprise boxes.

“At Marshalls, we believe life is just better with surprises – it’s what makes our stores so exciting to shop,” said Victoria Shonkoff, Marshalls VP, marketing director. “Our stores deliver surprise every day through our ever-changing selection of the brands you love, and we’re excited to take surprise to the next level for shoppers across the country with the Marshalls Surprise Box.”

The promotion will run between 2 and 9 p.m. on Aug. 16. Winners must be legal U.S. residents 18 or older. No purchase will be necessary to search for or win a box.

Marshalls operates more than 1,000 stores in 49 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
