Twitch is ready to play on Prime Day

Amazon’s game-oriented video streaming platform Twitch is aiming to score Prime Day sales.

According to a corporate blog post, Twitch will host a two-day live shopping show called “Twitch Sells Out: A Prime Day Special Event,” from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. PT on July 15 and 16. The event will feature popular Twitch streamers showcasing deals on products including games and peripherals, as well as non-gaming items such as kitchenware and electronics.

The broadcasts will also include demos and gameplay of new and upcoming game releases, which viewers can purchase or preorder from the stream. Twitch also promises it will offer “unusual” items for sale. The identities of popular streamers who will be showcasing products will be announced on July 10.

Twitch is encouraging participation by allowing co-streaming throughout the event, which will enable viewers to offer real-time commentary on featured items. Viewers can also become sellers. The Blacksmith Extension, an interactive on-screen overlay with links to purchase the products, will be in “Live Event Mode” so Twitch partners and affiliates can enable it on their channel to get a share of the revenue for any product or Prime sign-up sold through their channel.

Only Amazon Prime members can participate in Twitch Sells Out – new members will receive a free Twitch subscription when they sign up. Twitch is offering other Prime Day-related promotions, such as a special discount on Twitch merchandise for Prime members, exclusive in-game content for Prime members, and two Prime Crown Cup e-sports championship tournaments held July 13 (one in London and one in Las Vegas).
