Johnson & Murphy is getting a new chief executive.

Jon Caplan has announced his retirement as CEO of Johnston & Murphy, a division of Genesco Inc., and Genesco's Branded Group, effective at the end of June 2019. Johnston & Murphy will be led by Danny Ewoldsen, who was named president of the heritage footwear brand in January 2018. Ewoldsen, a 16-year veteran of Johnston & Murphy, previously served as executive VP, retail and e-commerce.

A veteran of the footwear industry, Caplan first joined Genesco in 1982, and went on to serve in numerous roles within the company. Following a 10-year stint outside of the company, the majority of the time with Stride Rite Corporation, he rejoined Genesco in 2002 as president of Johnston & Murphy and CEO of Genesco's Branded Group. During his 16-year tenure, Caplan was instrumental in the brand's transformation from a heritage dress shoe brand into a true lifestyle brand, the company said.

Genesco Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.-based specialty retailer, sells footwear and accessories in more than 1,500 retail stores throughout the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and Germany, principally under a variety of banners.
