Fast-growing Lululemon rival to open its first NYC store

2/8/2016

Yogasmoga, the made-in-America, Yoga-inspired athletic apparel retailer, is coming home.

The company, which is based in New York City, will open its first Big Apple location this spring. The store, in the NoHo section of downtown Manhattan, marks a continued commitment to expansion for the eco-conscious brand, which opened 10 stores in 2015.

"In three years we have opened stores on the beach in Malibu and La Jolla, tech hubs like San Francisco, suburban Greenwich and Short Hills, and now urban locations like New York City," said CEO and co-founded Rishi Bali.

Yogasmoga is positioned in the high-end of the athletic wear market. It develops and manufactures its products in the United States, and utilize “eco-conscious dyeing practices” to create its proprietary fabrics.

Founded online in 2013, the company has expanded to brick-and-mortar and currently operates 12 stores nationwide. It’s on the lookout for additional locations.

The Manhattan store will be designed by New York-based Selldorf Architects.

"We've taken inspiration from Yogasmoga’s ethos of technical fabric innovation to design key elements of the store,” said Annabelle Selldorf, principal, Selldorf Architects. We expect to use their fabric technology and beautiful colors as the focal point of this unique double height experience."

The lower level of the location is also expected to feature a yoga lounge for community events.
