Grand Metropolitan Mall, Bekasi, Indonesia

9/12/2014

When the Grand Metropolitan Mall opened in 2013 in Bekasi, Indonesia, just east of Jakarta, it did so with an award-winning design.

U.S.-based design, planning, architecture, interiors, and graphics firm DDG took home a win for its design of the 646,000-sq.-ft. project from the International Property Awards. DDG was responsible for concept architecture – including defining the theme of the mall and handling schematics – as well as collaboration with local architects, dealing with all permitting and codes, creation of the merchandising plan, and signage and graphics for the mall.

The mall itself, which is built alongside the Kalimalang River waterfront adjacent to a major national highway connector to Jakarta, features striking exterior visuals and distinctive curvilinear forms, accented by extensive mirrored paneling which provides a dramatic, contemporary flair. Rippling, ribboned design elements wrap around the four-level mall, providing a spectrum of changing colors, while banners, video screens, lighting, and LCD effects add energy and drama.

“This award reinforces DDG’s reputation within the industry for providing superior design services,” says DDG chairman, CEO, and president Ahsin Rasheed.
