Johnny Rockets launching new format, Route 66, with drive-thru, drive-in and pop-up prototypes

9/15/2014

Aliso Viejo, Calif. -- Johnny Rockets announced a new concept, called Johnny Rockets Route 66, which will take the form of four prototypes: drive-thru, drive-in, food truck and pop-up. The first prototypes are to debut as early as fourth quarter 2014.

The drive-thru prototype is targeted for high volume, regional travel plazas located off major freeways and highways. It will range from 1,800sq. ft. to 3,300 sq. ft. and feature an optimized menu, digital projectors and technology to enhance the guest experience.

“The drive-thru option will potentially increase our market share and overall sales, improving the economic model of our restaurant franchise,” said James Walker, chief development officer of Johnny Rockets. “Not only will these in-town and travel center locations offer high quality food, including a breakfast menu, but they will also provide the Johnny Rockets experience through digital projections and signage. Guests can enjoy Johnny Rockets’ one-of-a-kind atmosphere from the comfort of their vehicles.”

Johnny Rockets will launch its drive-in concept in partnership with USA Drive-Ins LLC, which plans to open 200 new drive-in movie-theatre locations, including Johnny Rockets Route 66 as the food and beverage option for attending patrons.

Also in cooperation with USA Drive-Ins, Johnny Rockets will configure a pop-up theatre prototype with a combined mobile restaurant that allows owners to create a dinner and movie combination in a myriad of venues, throughout the country.

Purchased by Sun Capital Partners in June 2013, Johnny Rockets operates more than 300 franchise and corporate locations in 26 countries around the world.
