Modell’s Sporting Goods celebrates 125 years with new store opening

New York --Modell’s Sporting Goods will celebrate 125 years in business with the grand opening of its newest location at 1019 Montauk Highway in Shirley, Long Island, bringing the sporting goods chain’s total to 157 storefronts.



The 14,000-sq.-ft. Southport Shopping Center location will officially open on Thursday, Oct. 23 with a ribbon cutting by president and CEO Mitchell Modell and area officials.



“We are thrilled to have our 16th store in the Long Island area,” said Modell. “This year, we’ve been fortunate enough to add four new locations to our Modell’s footprint including One Penn Plaza, 711 Lexington Ave, Ritchie Station VA, and now Shirley, Long Island that will allow us to better serve our local communities, just in time for the upcoming holiday season.”



This is the second Modell’s opening in 60 days. Over the Labor Day weekend, it opened a new Manhattan location near the corner of 57th St. and Lexington Ave.
