First Look: Staples Canada in brand, store revamp; to offer co-working space

12/12/2018
Staples Canada wants to be known as the “Working and Learning” company.

The retailer launched a new store concept, in Kirkland, Quebec, to be followed by a second location, opening in January in downtown Toronto, that will feature a coworking space called Staples Studio and a full-service café. The company also unveiled a new brand identity with the tagline “Working and Learning Company,” and a refreshed logo designed to reflect the collaboration between customers, and store associates.

Staples’s new store format has a modern design sensibility, with a layout that divides the space into such zones as Tech and Connect, Print and Paper and Workspaces. Clear sightlines to draw the eye throughout the space. Vignettes and feature tables showcase product solutions for various types of work environments. Customers are encouraged to test, and learn about, product solutions.

In addition, the new concept includes a space where local consumers, entrepreneurs, educators and students can meet, share ideas and learn through a new “Spotlight Speaker Series,” that will offer product demonstrations, entrepreneurial networking events and weekly speakers. The retailer is also expanding and taking its support services business to the next level as the Solution Shop.

"The way people work and live is changing in profound ways and Staples Canada is adapting to help our customers work, learn and grow," said David Boone, CEO, Staples Canada. "We spoke to thousands of entrepreneurs, teachers, students and parents to gain insights on what we could do to better suit their needs, and we're delivering a solution unique to Canada. The environment we've created in our concept stores invites anyone coming in to spend time with us, find a place to relax and hang out, explore products, grab a coffee, share ideas and work together."

On the omnichannel front, Staples Canada said it has the ability to deliver to 85% of customers the next day with a dedicated fleet and minimal, or no, shipping fees.
