Publix’s new GreenWise Market opens in downtown Tampa

Publix Super Markets continues to expand its specialty natural and organic foods banner.

The newest GreenWise Market is located in Tampa, in the Water Street Tampa downtown development. The 26,000-sq.-ft. store is the anchor retail tenant at Heron, the first apartment building to open at Water Street. It’s the second GreenWise to be located in a high-rise, multiuse building. Two towers of apartment living and a parking garage are above the store.

The new GreenWise Market is connected to the district cooling system located in Water Street. The chilled water from the cooling system provides improved energy efficiency and better stability for the grocer’s air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. This is the second time Publix has connected to a district cooling system for air-conditioning needs, but the first time for refrigeration.

The store features a mural by local artist Leon Bedore, also known as Tes One. The mural reflects the vibrant vibe of downtown Tampa through its vivid colors and modern shapes.

Publix debuted its first new concept, GreenWise Market, in October 2018, in Tallahassee, Florida. Nine stores are now open (including the Tampa location) A tenth is planned, for St. Augustine, Fla.

“So many exciting things are happening in downtown Tampa, and we are pleased to be part of that,” said Publix president Kevin Murphy. “Our curated mix of high-quality specialty make-at-home and grab & go items will add a level of convenience for residents and visitors looking for easy meal solutions as they enjoy the events and activities available in the surrounding area.”

Publix GreenWise Market offers a variety of organic groceries, familiar favorites, house-made specialties and more for health-conscious and gourmet foodies alike. The store includes locally curated items and experience zones with products for any occasion.

For grab & go options, customers can visit POURS and EATS. Gourmet cheese, olives, cured meats and wine pairings from around the globe can be found in FINDS. More options to cook at home can be found in CUTS and PRODUCE, with personal care items in CARES.

Publix operates more than 1,200 grocery stores throughout seven states in the Southeast. For the fiscal year ended Dec. 26, 2020 were $44.9 billion, a 17.7% increase from $38.1 billion in 2019. Comparable store sales for the fiscal year ended Dec. 26, 2020 increased 16%.
