Dick’s extends premium pay, will close stores Thanksgiving

Dick’s Sporting Goods will now provide a temporary pay boost through December and is the third major retailer to announce a Thanksgiving store closure.

The specialty sporting goods retailer’s store and distribution center associates will continue to receive a 15% pay premium through the end of the year. In addition, Dick’s will close all store locations and distribution centers on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2020. This closure includes specialty stores Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream.

In previous years, most Dick’s Sporting Goods stores were open with limited evening hours on Thanksgiving. Discount giants Walmart and Target are both also keeping stores closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

All Dick’s Sporting Goods locations will operate on standard business hours on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The retailer plans to release information on holiday hours, which begin Friday, Nov. 27, at a later date.

"We are so thankful to our teammates for their hard work and dedication," said Ed Stack, chairman and CEO, Dick’s Sporting Goods. "They have navigated this year with strength, commitment and care for each other and for our customers. We will continue to do all we can to support them and show our gratitude."
