Founded in 2013, Foxtrot had 33 stores across several states.

A company that was formed less than a year ago has shuttered all its stores and is apparently going out of business.

Outfox Hospitality — the company that was formed from the merger of Foxtrot Market and Dom’s Kitchen & Market — has closed all its stores. The two Chicago-based retailers, who were both known for their upscale, locally-sourced assortments and in-store cafes, revealed the shutterings in a statement that was posted on both their websites.

“After much consideration and evaluation, we regret to announce that Foxtrot and Dom's Kitchen & Market will be closing their doors starting on April 23, 2024,” the statement read. “The closure affects 33 Foxtrots and 2 Dom's grocery stores across Chicago, Austin, Dallas, DC areas. We explored many avenues to continue the business but found no viable option despite good faith and exhaustive efforts.”

Outfox Hospitality is planning to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to Substack newsletter Snaxshot. In February, the company named a 27-year Whole Foods Market veteran Rob Twyman as its new chief executive.

Founded in 2013, Foxtrot was designed as a modern take on the convenience store, combining an upscale corner store and café with app-based purchasing that provided 30-minute deliveries. Stores featured a wide variety of products, including freshly crafted chef-prepared meals, premium groceries, wine, snacks and sweets, personal care products, and gifts. The brand curated its selection with up-and-coming brands and highly local favorites along with an inviting café experience.

Dom’s, which launched in 2021, had locations in Chicago’s Lincoln Park and Old Town neighborhoods, with a third set to open in summer 2024, in the city’s River North district. Stores were designed as neighborhood hubs and offer curated market products, chef-crafted meals and in-store dining.
