Irvine Company bringing Whole Foods Market to Santa Clara Square

11/5/2014

Santa Clara, Calif. --The Irvine Company announced that Santa Clara’s first Whole Foods Market is coming to Santa Clara Square, a unique office campus and specialty retail center being built at Great America Parkway and the 101 freeway in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Whole Foods will occupy 50,000 sq. ft. of retail space at Santa Clara Square Marketplace, a 125,000-sq.-ft. specialty shopping center being built by the Irvine Company. Construction on Santa Clara Square Marketplace is under way with Whole Foods Market set to open in 2016 along with other merchants.

The Santa Clara store will be Whole Foods Market’s third with the Irvine Company. In 2012, Whole Foods Market opened at Fashion Island, the Irvine Company’s 1.5 million-sq.-ft. coastal shopping center in Newport Beach. In early 2016, Whole Foods Market is set to open at Los Olivos Marketplace, a 120,000-sq.-ft. shopping center being built by the Irvine Company in the city of Irvine.

Santa Clara Square Marketplace will feature upscale restaurants, including some concepts entirely new to Northern California. The restaurants of Santa Clara Square Marketplace make the most of Silicon Valley’s climate with outdoor terraces for elegant al fresco dining. The center also will include causal restaurants, unique shops and convenient services, all within walking distance for Santa Clara Square employees and nearby residents.

“With Santa Clara Square Marketplace, we are bringing decades of experience designing shopping centers and working with retailers,” said Dave Moore, president of Irvine Company Retail Properties, which operates nearly 9 million sq. ft. of retail in California. “We are looking to build on our longstanding ties with leading merchants and restaurateurs to bring some exciting firsts to Santa Clara and Silicon Valley.”

Santa Clara Square Marketplace is part of the Irvine Company’s larger Santa Clara Square master plan. Along with a specialty shopping center, Santa Clara Square includes 1.5 million sq. ft. of state-of-the-art campus office workspace in buildings designed by architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners of New York.
