12/3/2014

Istanbul, Turkey - Annapolis, Maryland-based architectural firm Roy Higgs International has been retained to design the retail portion of Metropol İstanbul, a global mixed-use project and architectural landmark of Istanbul that is rising within the borders of the Istanbul International Financial Center in Ataşehir.

“Metropol İstanbul will breathe new life into this vibrant city, elevating its architectural significance,” said Elif Ozbay, design manager for Metropol İstanbul.

Metropol İstanbul is one of the largest mixed-use properties in Turkey, constructed on 1 million square meters of land and featuring the Metropol Tower—one of the tallest structures in Europe—and luxury residential with more than 1,200 apartments. In addition, the retail development will feature three stories of exclusive retail, with a 400-meter (4,000-sq.-ft.) long rooftop retail street, an international health spa and a 16-theater cinema. The total construction area exceeds 700,000 square meters (approximately 7 million sq. ft.).

Metropol Istanbul is co-developed by Turkish construction companies VARYAP and Gap Inşaat in collaboration with Emlak Konut REIT, a government subsidiary of the Housing Development Administration of Turkey. The project will combine living and working spaces, all sustained by direct sunlight, natural layouts and easy access from the main roads.
