9/27/2013

Mashnatucket, Conn. -- Foxwoods Resort Casino is reportedly building a 300,000-sq.-ft. retail center that will house outlet shops. According to the Associated Press, Foxwoods is partnering with Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. to create a Tanger Outlets complex that will feature more than 80 retailers, including American Eagle Outfitters, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein and Nike.

The retail center will reportedly cost $115 million to develop and is expected to open in late 2014 or early 2015, depending on weather. The center will connect two casino floors that draw 10 to 15 million customers a year. Construction is expected to create 400 jobs and about 900 full- and part-time retail jobs are expected once the center opens. It is also expected to generate more than $10 million in annual state sales tax revenue.

"I call this entertainment for the non-gambling spouse," said Steven B. Tanger, president and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc.
