  • Another retailer is entering the hotel arena

    Muji, the Tokyo-based global retailer, will open its largest store to date — underneath its very own hotel.      The company will open a hotel in in Tokyo's Ginza district in spring 2019. The hotel will be located in a new, 10-story building that will also house a 35,000-sq.-ft. Muji flagship. The store will occupy one basement floor up to part of the sixth floor above ground, with the rest of the space above devoted to the hotel, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.  
  • Westlake Ace Hardware hits store milestone

    Westlake Ace Hardware has officially hit the 100-store milestone with the acquisition of two new stores.   The hardware store chain has finalized its acquisition of two Q.P. Ace Hardware stores in the Omaha area, bringing its total retail hardware location count in the U.S. to 100.  
  • Online plus-size retailer has ambitious plans for brick-and-mortar

    Eloquii is making the leap to physical retailing — with more than one location.    The plus-size fashion brand is set to open a store at The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, Arlington, Va., followed by a location in downtown Chicago, and one at Easton Town Center, in Columbus, Ohio, which will open in September, reported The Columbus Dispatch.   
  • Williams Sonoma to go big with new concept in Seattle

    Williams Sonoma will open the largest version yet of its new dual-concept format, which combines its traditional kitchen and food products with home furnishings.  
  • Gander Mountain to survive in scaled back fashion — and under new banner

    Camping World Holdings has given an update on its plans for Gander Mountain.   Camping World, which acquired the assets of Gander Mountain and boating division Overton's in a bankruptcy auction in May, said it plans to operate 57 locations — assuming details can be worked out with landlords and final acceptable leases agreed to. Liquidation sales started in May at all 160 Gander stores.   
  • Midwest home furnishings retailer expanding

    The RoomPlace growing its store portfolio.   The family-owned company has opened a new showroom and warehouse distribution center in Indianapolis. The location is part of a strategic initiative to expand the furniture retailer's footprint in the city.   The new outpost also marks The RoomPlace's 25th store, with locations across Illinois and Indiana. It is one of the company's largest, at over 70,000 sq. ft. features a 16,000-sq.-ft. clearance center.   
  • Convenience store chain in big expansion move

    QuikTrip Corp. is expanding into two new markets.   The convenience-store chain plans to open a total of 100 stores in the San Antonio and Austin (Texas) areas. Construction is expected to begin this winter, with the first locations scheduled to open in the summer of 2018.   The expansion marks QuikTrip's first new market entry in six years. In 2011, the company launched its Carolinas division, adding 75 stores in Charlotte, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina.   
  • Footwear retailer supersizes it with new format

    Skechers has debuted a new store format in its largest mall location to date.    The company has opened a 24,000-sq.-ft. outlet store at Ontario Mills, Ontario, California, that houses one of the widest assortments of Skechers products under one roof, with dedicated departments for the brand's various lifestyle and performance collections for men and women. The new Skechers Superstore also features a fun kids’ area, complete with a candy shop and a theater space screening Skechers cartoons.
