  • J.C. Penney sells real estate stake in Simon, unveils in-store shops

    Dallas -- J.C. Penney Co. said Monday it has raised $248 million and taken its first step toward shedding non-core assets by selling off part of its stake in a Simon Property Group unit.

    Following the transaction, the real estate unit for Penney – JCP Realty – will hold about 205,000 limited partnership units in Simon’s operating partnership.

    Also on Monday, J.C. Penney CEO Ron Johnson unveiled a trio of in-store shops, slated to open at 683 J.C. Penney stores across the United States starting on Aug. 1.

  • Dunkin' Donuts to expand presence in Germany

    Canton, Mass. -- Dunkin' Donuts announced Monday that it has signed a franchisee agreement to expand the brand's presence in Germany.

    The new franchisee group, consisting of local businessmen Sadi Sanlav and Mo Rahimi, plans to develop at least 15 new Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the Frankfurt, Rhine-Main area of Germany over the next five years.
     

  • Colorado Mills names marketing director

    Lakewood, Colo. -- Outlet and value shopping center Colorado Mills announced the hiring of Deborah Celaya as director of marketing and business development.

    In her new role, Celaya will be responsible for strategic marketing, business development, public relations, tenant relations, guest services and tourism.

    Celaya most recently held a senior executive position at Race Partners, and has previously served as group VP for General Growth Properties.

  • Soma Intimates to open at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch

    Katy, Texas -- Soma Intimates said it will open a new boutique at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, located in Katy, Texas.

    The new store is slated to open July 23.

    A joint venture of Houston-based Vista Equities Group and Denver-based Amstar Group, LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch is a mixed-use town center development located within the 7,600-acre master planned community of Cinco Ranch.

    Phase I of LaCenterra opened March 1, 2007 with approximately 170,000 sq. ft.
     

  • Buckle opens at Eastwood Mall

    Niles, Ohio -- Kearney, Neb.-based teen retailer The Buckle said it has opened a new location at Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio.

    The store, the company’s 21st in the state, celebrated its grand opening on July 16.
     

  • Youfit Health Clubs to open at Crossings Shopping Village

    Miami Beach, Fla. -- Terranova Corp. said that it has signed Youfit Health Clubs in Crossings Shopping Village, a Publix-anchored shopping center in the Kendall, Fla., area.

    The new 12,000-sq.-ft. facility is slated to open this fall. The chain has 38 other locations throughout Florida, but only one other location elsewhere in Miami-Dade County.
     

  • Donahue Schriber launches Mandalay Village Marketplace renovation

    Port Hueneme, Calif. -- Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Donahue Schriber said it has started the first phase of a $1.5-million renovation of Mandalay Village Marketplace, a 193,964-sq.-ft. shopping center in Port Hueneme, Calif.

    The Ralphs and CVS Pharmacy-anchored center also includes Petco and Do It Best Hardware.

    Mandalay Village Marketplace was purchased by Donahue Schriber at the beginning of 2012 as part of a strategic acquisitions plan following the retail owner and developer's $1.2 billion recapitalization last year.

  • Mid-America secures Bedding Experts for Deerfield Village Centre

    Chicago -- Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Mid-America Asset Management said that Bedding Experts has opened a 4,019-sq.-ft. store at Deerfield Village Centre on Chicago’s North Shore.

    The privately held mattress retailer took space vacated by Blockbuster Video, and opened on June 30.

    Deerfield Village Centre features 44,083 sq. ft. of retail space that includes Chipotle, Leather Creations, Sprint, and Starbucks among others.
     

  • The Fresh Market to open in New Orleans

    New Orleans -- Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties said that The Fresh Market will open a new store in New Orleans on July 25, marking the grocery retailer’s fourth store in the state.

    “We are excited to open our store in New Orleans and to expand our reach in Louisiana,” said Craig Carlock, Fresh Market president and CEO. “We look forward to introducing The Fresh Market’s concept of quality perishables, excellent customer service and a unique atmosphere to an expanded customer base.”    

  • 9021Pho to open at Glendale Galleria

    Glendale, Calif. -- Vietnamese-French fusion restaurant 9021Pho said it will open a new restaurant at General Growth Properties-owned Glendale Galleria, in Glendale, Calif.

    The restaurant is slated to open fourth quarter 2012. 9021Pho has two other Southern California locations in Beverly Hills and Westlake Village.
