  • Trader Joe's to open three Houston-area stores in 2012

    Houston -- A report in the Houston Chronicle said that grocer Trader Joe’s is opening two additional Houston-area locations — one in the Memorial area and one in Montrose.

    In November Trader Joe’s announced its first planned Houston area store in The Woodlands Crossing Shopping Center.

    All three stores are slated to open this year. The Memorial-area store will be 14,000 sq. ft., the Montrose store will be 14,500 sq. ft. and the store at The Woodlands will be 13,500 sq. ft.

  • New outlet mall breaks ground in Phoenix

    Phoenix -- Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group said Wednesday that its Premium Outlets division has launched construction of Phoenix Premium Outlets, an upscale outlet shopping center serving the Greater Phoenix and Scottsdale areas.

    Phoenix Premium Outlets will be located in Chandler, Ariz. Phase I of the project will be comprised of 360,000 sq. ft. housing approximately 90 outlet stores featuring high-quality designer and name brands. A spring 2013 opening is planned.

  • Former Macy’s razed in preparation for redevelopment

    Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- A 120,000-sq.-ft. former Macy’s building was demolished on Wednesday, as developer WS Development prepares the site for a second redevelopment phase of its Chestnut Hill (Mass.) Shopping Center.

    The region’s oldest suburban mall will become home to a new generation of retailers, services and entertainment offerings, including a new 31,000-sq.-ft. Sports Club/LA health and fitness complex and a National Amusements’ theatre and restaurant facility.

  • Modell’s Sporting Goods opens new New Jersey store

    Paterson, N.J. -- New York City-based Modell’s Sporting Goods said Wednesday it will open a new 7,000-sq.-ft. store in Paterson, N.J., on Thursday.

    The announcement comes off the heels of three store openings earlier in March in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Fresh Meadow, N.Y.; and Wayne, N.J.

    The retailer operates 151 stores located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. 
     

  • Eidco awarded Westgate Mall project

    Chicago -- Eidco Construction announced that the firm has won a 65,000-sq.-ft. renovation project at the Westgate Mall in Brainerd and Baxter, Minn.

    Currently in progress, the project was designed by Chipman Design Architecture, in collaboration with Ringdahl Architects, and involves a number of interior tenant improvements, along with exterior façade work and the construction of a building addition.

  • New outlet property to be developed in coastal Texas

    Corpus Christi, Texas -- Dolphin Ventures and EWB Development announced that they will develop The Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay, located in Corpus Christi, Texas.

    The project will be a partnership with the Lockard Cos.

    Phase one, slated to contain 281,526 sq. ft., is targeted for a late 2013 opening.

    “This center will fill a void in the Texas market and is one of the very last major tourist destinations in the U.S. without an outlet center,” said Lisa Quier Wagner of Dolphin Ventures and EWB Development.

  • Wine Lab opens second location at The Camp

    Costa Mesa, Calif. -- ChrisAnn and Roger Richards announced the opening of their second wine and cheese bar and shop, Wine Lab at The Camp, located in the restaurant and shopping destination at 2937 Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, Calif.

    The 1,270 sq.-ft. bar, designed with a mid-century flair, augments the debut location in Newport, Calif., and features wines and beer on tap as well as a retail shop.
     

  • Towne Centre Plaza acquired by Retail Connection and North American Development

    Dallas -- The Retail Connection and North American Development Group announced the purchase of Towne Centre Plaza, a 94,109-sq.-ft. property located across from Town East Mall in Mesquite, Texas. 

    The shopping center was built in 2002 on 8.8 acres and features Bed Bath & Beyond and Best Buy as tenants. The Retail Connection is currently in negotiations for the 23,000-sq.-ft. vacancy in the center with a national tenant, which, when leased will bring the center back to 100% occupancy.

  • Marcus & Millichap names senior directors

    San Diego -- Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services said it has named Phil Sambazis senior director of the firm’s National Retail Group in San Diego. Sambazis joined Marcus & Millichap in March 2006 and specializes in the acquisition and disposition of retail shopping centers and net-leased investments.

    Marcus & Millichap has also named Kevin W. Boeve senior director of the firm’s National Retail Group in Ontario. Boeve joined Marcus & Millichap in June 1999.

  • Charles Sparks designs new format for Neiman Marcus

    Westchester, Ill. -- Charles Sparks + Co. announced the debut of its design for the new Neiman Marcus store in Walnut Creek, Calif. The 85,000-sq.-ft., three-level location represents a fresh new vision of modern luxury in a smaller format store for the luxury department store retailer.
